WELCOME!

WELCOME to our new blog, No Human Gospel.  We are a group of bloggers, some of whom used to post at Stand Firm in Faith until that site went dark, and we have looked for an opportunity to expand our horizons ever since.  For now, we are using the Blogger platform because it’s simple to get up and running.  Also, we will be moderating all comments here, until we get comfortable with our audience.

We take as our theme the words of St. Paul, in his letter to the Galatians (1:8, 11-12): “Even if we – or, for that matter, an angel from heaven! – were to announce to you some so-called “Good News” contrary to the Good News we did announce to you, let him be under a curse forever! . . . Furthermore, let me make clear to you, brothers, that the Good News as I proclaim it is not a human product, because neither did I receive it from someone else nor was I taught it – it came through a direct revelation from Jesus the Messiah.”

Though we are not all of the same denomination, we agree with Paul that there is only one Gospel, the one that comes through Jesus Christ. He is Lord, the Savior whose death upon the cross saves us from the condemnation due for our sins.  What you read here may vary in viewpoint, but it will never be contrary to the Gospel handed down to us from Christ through the saints.

Nor will the posts here be concerned just with religion or holy doctrine.  Each of us has multiple interests in other subject areas, such as music, law, science, history, sports, art, and even guns and dogs!  We try as best we can to apply our faith to those interests, and we hope that our efforts will be worthy of your time.  So stop by often, check out what is new, and (if you are so moved) leave us a comment or two – once again, you are most welcome here!

Last Words

Jacques Monod was a brilliant microbiologist, one who was present at the very beginning of the explorations that led to the discovery of the role that genes play in the development and evolution of life. Along with his coworkers, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1965 for physiology / medicine on account of their elaboration of the mechanisms by which genes are either expressed or repressed in the course of an organism's development. As detailed in this biography , he was a fierce partisan during the years of the Vichy government's betrayal of France, and played a leading role in the forces of the Resistance movement -- at considerable risk to his own life. The same book chronicles his lifelong friendship with another Resistance supporter, the Algerian-born Albert Camus, who clandestinely inspired his countrymen through his uplifting editorials published, despite numerous Nazi attempts at suppression, in an underground journal of the French resistance during World War II, c...

DC Episcopalians Neuter God

God, needless to say, is neither male nor female. He is, however, referred to in almost exclusively male language in Scripture. Jesus, for instance, usually calls Him "Father," and presumably knew a thing or two about the proper way to address the Almighty. To the extent that feminine language is ever used, it is strictly metaphorical, and refers to one of God's attributes. There's good reason for this, aside from God's self-revelation, the most important being the need to distinguish the God of Israel from the female fertility gods of the Canaanites.  None of this matters, however to the modern female [anti-]fertility cult that the Episcopal Church has become. So at its diocesan convention this week, the delegates of the Diocese of Washington DC decided that they knew better how to address God than Jesus. According to LifeSiteNews : The Episcopal church in the Diocese of Washington, D.C., passed a resolution last week to stop using masculine pronouns for G...

Mark Steyn and the Feminist Preacher Were Right

I was driving across my adopted state of South Dakota.  It was a long drive.  All of the drives across South Dakota are the long drives. (OK, enough with the Hemingway schtick). To stay awake at the wheel, I took a stab at calling the national talk show on the car radio.  Lo and behold, I wound up on air with conservative commentator   Mark Steyn. I stammered into a nervous rant about all of the corruption and decline in everything - government, church, you name it. The host stopped me and said something like, Now wait a minute.  We expect such behavior from politicians.  But from those who claim to represent eternal verities?  We should be able to expect something better. Flash back to the early 80s.  I'm a self absorbed seminarian.  In chapel, one of the cresting wave of feminist students (LGBT wave welling up right behind) was in the pulpit. There will be no rape in the kingdom , she intoned, and then narrowed her eyes and made a...
